CURRICULUM

High School (Classes VIII to X)

The High School programme at Sri KKEC School is thoughtfully structured to meet the academic and developmental needs of adolescents while preparing them for future challenges. The curriculum is designed to promote conceptual understanding, independent thinking, and meaningful learning rather than memorisation-based study practices.

Students are offered a comprehensive curriculum that includes English, Second and Third Languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Computer Education, Art Education, and other co-curricular learning experiences. Third Language learning is introduced from the middle school years and continues as part of the academic framework.

Alongside academics, students actively participate in programmes such as yoga, life skills education, global awareness initiatives, hobby clubs, and experiential learning activities that contribute to their overall personality development and well-being.

ASSESSMENT

We evaluate our students throughout the academic year to encourage continuous learning, rather than rote learning just before an exam. We use several activities to help students retain concepts. Projects and practical work are also given to ensure students learn concepts better.

Periodic Tests

Individual worksheets are given to students at regular intervals during the academic year. The goal is to assess the student’s grasp of concepts and, if needed, to eliminate existing learning gaps.

Multiple Assessments

Each year, four assessments are carried out (two per term). This includes grading classwork and homework, as well as the Detailed Assessment. Multiple evaluation methods include role-plays, dialogue writing, group discussions, quizzes, concept maps, debates, recitation, art-integrated projects, and sports-integrated activities.

Summative Examinations

These are end-of-term exams that are conducted twice a year (two per term). Students are taught how to assimilate and recollect topics learned during the academic year. They are also trained to handle larger portions of the syllabus. These exams aid in evaluating students’ in-depth comprehension and skill acquisition. Students get to practice for their board exams while appearing for these exams.

Portfolio

Students are encouraged to keep a record of their work and select the best and not-so-best pages from their notebooks, as well as the best and not-so-best answers from their exam papers. They also note down their own reflections on their work. This enables them to assess their own work and evaluate how much they have learnt.

Continuous evaluation plays a vital role in understanding each child’s progress and identifying areas that require further support and improvement. It also enables teachers to enhance the overall teaching-learning process and create meaningful classroom experiences.

Assessments are designed to evaluate a child’s cognitive development at various levels, ranging from basic understanding to practical application and critical thinking skills. The Primary section follows a system of continuous and comprehensive assessment through Formative Assessments (FA) and Skill-Based Assessments (SA).

Regular written assessments are conducted through worksheets and classroom exercises, while skill-based evaluations are carried out through observation, project work, experiential activities, role play, and interactive tasks. These methods help determine whether the intended learning outcomes and developmental goals have been successfully achieved.

Learning Avenue's

We want to instil a love of reading in our pupils from a young age. While they begin with weekly library periods in the early years, all students, regardless of which class they are in, have access to the library. Our library contains over 5,000 academic and non-academic volumes in its collection. Fiction, languages, physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, physical education, philosophy, education, psychology, and religion are among the many topics covered in the diverse collection of books. The library has a wealth of information in the form of journals, periodicals, dictionaries, and encyclopaedias. We also have subscriptions to eight magazines and seven newspapers in various languages. The library’s reference books are excellent resources for both teachers and students. Book Fairs held on school grounds allow students to browse a diverse range of books from various genres. We seek to inculcate the habit of reading in our students from a young age. While they begin with weekly library periods during the early years, all students have access to the library no matter which class they are in. For students, the calm and pleasant environment is a haven.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

We included Information and Communication Technology as part of our curriculum because technology is becoming increasingly important in everyday activities. It was first launched in 2004 and amended in 2010 to provide secondary school pupils with the opportunity to primarily enhance their ICT skills and learn through a computer-assisted education process. Students learn how to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information using a variety of ICT technologies at our school. It aids in the development of critical and analytical thinking skills, as well as creative problem-solving capabilities, for practical solutions.

Life Skills

Enabling Evolutionary Excellence to provide students with a course that instils vital life skills and has the potential to assist them in the future. It is targeted toward pupils from Classes VI to X. Students participate in a variety of action-oriented classroom activities and life projects that are closely linked with the curriculum. Class X is taught SAP (Social Action Project), a project management and leadership module. It gives them a useful perspective on real-world issues and trains them to tackle them. Each student is encouraged to work on their own project and present it to a panel of experts who evaluate it independently. Thus, SAP provides a platform for students to reflect, introspect, and learn from life throughout the course of 24 sessions from June to February, allowing them to graduate as true change makers.

Math Lab

Because the concepts are presented through interesting approaches, math lab activities play an important part in enriching the students’ learning experience. Using fun lab activities, math concepts are taught in a dynamic and engaging way. Such a method of training is made possible by our well-equipped math lab and faculty. These exercises are class-specific and are integrated into the curriculum. The hands-on activities assist students in seeing and comprehending abstract concepts. Factorisation of quadratic polynomials using paper cuttings, as well as deriving equations for volumes and surface areas of solids, are just a few examples.

Financial Education

Co-curricular areas of study include financial education. This programme gives pupils an understanding of how society operates and thus prepares them for a more secure and prosperous future. During the session, students are expected to comprehend and internalise the knowledge that is tailored to their age and learning ability. Students can work at their own pace on the online modules, which are followed by an assessment. The school conducts the programme, created by experts, in partnership with Prep My Skills. Students learn about the importance of saving, wealth creation, and inflation, as well as indulgence vs. need. They also learn about credit and debit cards, banking instruments, and the importance of saving.

Detailed Assessment (DA)

Detailed Assessment is a topic-wise testing tool that helps to inform teachers and students about misconceptions and performance deficits. These online assessments follow the school’s curriculum and provide instant feedback on the performance of each student. The teacher receives a detailed report that aids in the quick remediation of the concepts.

Enrichment Activities

At Sri KKEC School, learning extends beyond textbooks and classrooms. Support

Parent–Teacher Interaction Programme

At Sri KKEC School, we strongly believe that a child’s success is best achieved through a collaborative partnership between parents and teachers. Regular Parent–Teacher Meetings (PTMs) are conducted after assessments and at scheduled intervals to discuss each student’s academic progress, classroom participation, behaviour, and overall development.

During these interactions, teachers provide detailed feedback regarding the student’s strengths, learning progress, and areas that may require additional support. Parents are also guided with suggestions and strategies to help children improve academically and emotionally. The meetings create an open and supportive platform where parents can share concerns, clarify queries, and work together with teachers for the holistic growth of the child.

Counselling and Student Wellness Programme

Sri KKEC School places great importance on the emotional and mental well-being of students. The school provides guidance and counselling support to help students manage academic pressure, emotional challenges, personal concerns, and social adjustments in a healthy and positive manner.
